#073: Dean Wareham - Dean Wareham
Dean Wareham’s self-titled album was released in March 2014 and the Sonic Cathedral LP was in translucent yellow vinyl and had the yellow version of Sharon Locke’s beautiful sleeve, one of my favourite sleeves that will feature in this series!
The album was plugged as Dean’s first solo album† but Dean somewhat played that down in a Q&A in Time
No. I always depend on the people around me. Even though it doesn’t have Britta’s name on it, she was very involved in helping arrange the songs, and so was our drummer Anthony [LaMarca] — and with this record Jim James as well.
It is such a good album that seems to have slipped a lot of folk by and doesn’t seem to get the recognition it deserves. I’d add also that the tour supporting the album was one of my favourites - I saw three consecutive nights of the tour in Brighton, Leamington Spa, and London and each was a treat in different ways. Dean’s band for the tour was Britta, Roger Brogan, and Raymond Richards and as a unit were both beatifully loose, and wonderfully tight at the same time. This was also the band that played Indietracks that year… but that was closer to a plays Galaxie 500 show!
